THE STRUCTURE OF JESUS' CHURCH...
Described by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:19 as "the household of God", the church is structured like a family with God as Father and Jesus as an older brother.
Human nature being what it is, many modern churches have a very hierarchical structure with a human leader or head of the church, or a "conference" or "synod" which takes on various leadership functions for the local church.
Other churches have "leadership teams", "ministry teams", or "boards" which lead the local congregation. Over time these leadership models begin to take on the form of a "clergy" model, with these leaders having more say in the day to day running of the congregation than other members.
But what was the early church like? How was it managed or organised?
